Newcastle United are preparing a January move for Galatasaray attacker Garry Rodrigues, according to Turkish-Football.

The news website claims that the Magpies are interested in a move for the 26-year-old from the Turkish top-flight club.

It is understood that Rafael Benitez tried to sign the winger back in the summer, but their attempts were rejected by the European club.

The report details that the Premier League side have remained in contact with Galatasaray and will improve their offer when the transfer window re-opens.

Rodrigues is renowned for his blistering pace and has become a permanent feature in the starting XI for Galatasaray.

He still has four year remaining on his contract at his parent club after only joining them in January.

Good move for Newcastle? ??

Benitez is keen to strengthen his Newcastle side in January as he aims to keep his side out of a relegation battle and a move to Rodrigues should not be a priority.

They are already well stocked in wide areas with the likes of Christian Atsu, Matt Ritchie, Jacob Murphy and Rolando Aarons in contention.

The North East club should be focusing more on strengthening other areas of the pitch such as finding a prolific goalscorer up front.

Rodrigues does look a decent player and he has made three assists in nine games so far this season.

His pace would be a real asset to the Premier League, but he is not the type of player Newcastle need right now.

Likely to happen?

Newcastle may have failed in their summer attempt to sign Rodrigues, but their persistence to strike up a deal suggests it could still happen.

The Cape Verde international may cost a big fee due to still having four years remaining on his contract, but the club will be keen to try support manager Benitez in his transfer demands in January.

He has started the season in decent form and has become an important player for Galatasaray so Newcastle will have to work cut out if they are to get this one over the line.
