Bristol City’s manager Lee Johnson said after the game that Ronaldo Vieira “ran the show” against his side, as they suffered a heavy 3-0 defeat at Ashton Gate.

Leeds manager Thomas Christiansen opted to change his formation from 4-2-3-1 to a 4-3-3, with Vieira given his first start in the Championship.

And he was vindicated as Vieira put in a hugely impressive display in the middle of the park, controlling the game and enabling Samu Saiz and Pierre-Michel Lasogga to deliver the goals that Leeds so desperately needed.

After the game Lee Johnson said that Leeds fully deserved the win and singled out Vieira for praise.

OPINION

The decision to bring back Ronaldo Vieira was absolutely the right one by Leeds manager Thomas Christiansen and it even had the opposition manager purring after the game. That wasn’t the only big call Christiansen made today – he also switched from his favoured formation and dropped Pontus Jansson to the bench – and it proved that he’s got the mettle to sustain a winning run at the play-offs and possibly better this season. Vieira himself must be buzzing. He was an inspiration for Leeds last season but he hasn’t been given a chance by Christiansen since the new manager took over at Elland Road. Sometimes in football you have to grasp the chance when it’s given to you, and that’s what Vieira did today, and then some. We would imagine that he’ll be the first name on the team sheet for the game against Leicester in the League Cup on Tuesday. And it could spell the end for Christiansen’s 4-2-3-1 – at least for the foreseeable future.
