Goals matter in the Premier League and Newcastle fans were definitely hoping for a bigger name signing up top than Joselu after they were promoted as Championship winners.
Since joining he’s been installed as Benitez’ number one striker, ahead of Dwight Gayle and Aleksandar Mitrovic.
He’s now made six Premier League appearances for Newcastle and scored twice, including the crucial equaliser against Liverpool in their last league game.
That earned his side a point but it was a flukey goal and Sky Sports pundit Jamie Carragher is adamant that Joselu is not good enough,
Talking on Sky Sports, Carragher said: “You can’t turn Newcastle into a force if you’re buying players like Joselu, who was a squad player at Stoke who Newcastle are probably going to rival this season, maybe in the bottom half of the table.”
This Is Futbol has lined up five of the best strikers in Europe that Benitez would have a decent shot at signing, including a highly-rated 21-year-old who’s refusing to sign a new contract and could leave on a free in the summer.
