Christiansen confirms Ekuban is set to return to training

|

Leeds United have received a major fitness boost after manager Thomas Christiansen confirmed that forward Caleb Ekuban is set to return to training with the first-team.

The 23-year-old has not featured for the Championship side since the league victory at the Stadium of Light against Sunderland in August.

The youngster has only played two matches for the Yorkshire club but he has still contributed with one goal and one assist in his short career at Elland Road.

Ekuban secured a permanent deal to Leeds from Serie A club Chievo Verona but he failed to come off the bench in the first three Championship matches.

Speaking to the Yorkshire Evening Post, Christiansen confirmed that although he is not back to full fitness, the Leeds boss mentioned that he is in “his last steps” of his recovery.

“He’s getting much closer,” he said.

“He’s already gone out on runs and we’re on the last steps for him to join in with the group.”

The same report reveals that the summer signing is set to return to training in the upcoming weeks after completing a number of sessions.

Leeds fans will be pleased to hear that their new recruit is fairly close to returning to first-team action. Although a date has not been set on his return, it appears that the youngster will soon be available to help the Whites push for an automatic promotion spot in the next couple of months. Leeds struggled for positive results before the international break but they still must be credited for the fine start to the campaign and they are going to need a full squad to challenge for a place in the Premier League next season. Ekuban impressed in his EFL Cup performance against Port Vale and he could potentially play an essential role in helping the team as the season continues.
