Reading manager Jaap Stam has revealed his side will travel by plane for the Championship clash against Leeds United on Saturday.

The Royals travel to Elland Road at the weekend for a league encounter as domestic football resumes after the international break.

Reading are without a win in their last six games across all competitions and are down in 20th in the league table.

Stam has explained that his team will fly the 200-mile journey to Leeds and believes that the novel idea will give his team better rest, compared to the usual routine of travelling by coach.

“It’s going to be another intense game,” Stam said, as quoted by Get Reading. “They always are and we are looking forward to it. We are flying up -we’ve had a lot of hours on the coach and it’ll give the players some rest in the hotel before the game.”

Leeds are also in need of a positive result after losing three of their last four games and slipped down to fifth in the table.

The Whites are unbeaten at home so far this season and will be aiming for three points at the weekend to boost their promotion credentials..

The Yorkshire giants have lost just once in their previous six meetings with Reading, but that was the most recent clash back in April at the Madejski Stadium.

OPINION

The match on Saturday is huge for both of them for contrasting reasons and Leeds will hope their creative geniuses shine through. The likes of Samu Saiz and Pablo Hernandez should be able to dictate the play in the home match and be able to pick off Reading during the 90 minutes. Christiansen will realise how crucial home form will be if they are to stay in the mix for promotion and continuing their unbeaten run at Elland Road would be a big lift. However, Stam feels that some extra rest for his players may help in the build-up to the game and it’s clear that something does need changing for them. They are massively under achieving so far this campaign and it is a mammoth test for them on Saturday.
