Leeds defender Gaetano Berardi has urged fans to stick behind their team as they suffer through what he has called a “bad moment”.

After a scintillating start to the season that saw Leeds charge to the top of the Championship table, they’ve now lost four out of the last five league games.

Left-back Berardi has called for calm and assured fans that their team would start winning again.

“We need to be ready and the most important thing is that we need to be positive because it’s a bad moment now,” Berardi said in the Yorkshire Evening Post.

“We have to try and win the next game and I’m sure that when we start to win, we’ll go again.

“It’s nice to see the stadium full and we need to take some good results for [the fans] but I would like to say a message to them – we would like to hear them more positive because I could hear bad things during the game.

“That’s normal and it’s football but everyone has to be positive. The players, the staff, everyone in the crowd.”

OPINION

Thomas Christiansen enjoyed a brilliant start to his Leeds career, with his new summer signings gelling quickly and firing his team up to the top of the Championship. If it seemed too good to be true, the Championship would strike back to test his Leeds side. It’s been a terrible run recently, but there’s enough quality on the pitch to stabilise things and a win on Saturday against Bristol City would be a massive boost. The Leeds fans have been brilliant this season and all through the last campaign and their team needs them now more than ever. Tensions in the crowd can easily pass to the players on the pitch and Berardi is right to ask for positive support. The away fans at Bristol City need to give everything they can to help their players on the pitch secure what could be a massive three points in their bid for a play-off place, or better, this season.
