Leeds defender Luke Ayling has signed a new four-year deal with the club, which will see him stay at Elland Road until 2021.

The news was announced on the official Leeds Twitter page on Thursday and represents some good news for manager Thomas Christiansen after a poor run of results has seen his team slip to sixth in the Championship.

Ayling joined Leeds from Bristol City in 2016 for a fee of £800k and has since made 58 appearances across all competitions.

He has started every game for Leeds this season and joins the likes of Gaetano Berardi, Eunan O’Kane and Kalvin Phillips in signing a contract extension.

OPINION

This is great news for Leeds. Ayling has quickly become a fan favourite at Elland Road and for good reason. His performances are consistently good and he’s a player that gives his all for the club. What Leeds need right now is some unity and hopefully this can provide a boost to morale at a time when spirits are definitely down.
