Everton were in desperate need of a new striker in the summer window and will be looking at Tottenham’s new signing Fernando Llorente with extreme jealousy.

The Toffees enjoyed a great transfer window on the whole by strengthening their squad, but one key area that was left was empty was a new central forward.

Ronald Koeman’s side have bought in attackers Wayne Rooney and Sandro Ramirez, but have not got anyone to be the central figure that Romelu Lukaku was for them last season.

The Merseyside club have missed a real trick on Llorente who is a powerhouse striker that can score goals, but he sealed his £15million switch from Swansea to Spurs on deadline day.

ESPN reported that Everton were interested in the Spaniard in the final week of the window, but they and Chelsea both missed out on his signature to Mauricio Pochettino’s team.

Llorente would have been a superb addition to Goodison Park and been the final piece of the jigsaw for Koeman’s side.

The 32-year-old is an experienced player that has the physical attributes to spearhead an attack and would have thrived alongside some of Everton’s creative players.

He may not be in the peak of his career anymore, but he proved that he is still prolific in front of goal.

Llorente managed 15 Premier League goals in a struggling Swansea side last season and he could certainly have bettered that record if he was leading the line at Goodison Park.

However, Everton fans are left without the World Cup winner and it will be interesting to see if he can apply some pressure on Harry Kane at Spurs.

The Toffees are now going to have to manage without a recognised central figure, but the early signings are that Dominic Calvert-Lewin is developing nicely.
