OPINION

Mauricio Pochettino and the huge bulk of Tottenham fans in the Wembley stands were celebrating after the final whistle was blown tonight, but it might have been very different.

Tottenham secured the three points and went some way towards putting their supposed Wembley hoodoo to rest, but it wasn’t an easy win by any means.

Borussia Dortmund enjoyed a huge amount of possession in the first half and were arguably the better team for large chunks of the first 60 minutes in London.

They also had a goal wrongly disallowed in the second half when Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang was whistled for offside after finishing beautifully when his side were 2-1 down.

However, Spurs did secure the three points which will put them in a great position to qualify from the group if they can beat group outsiders Apoel Nicosia home and away.

Heung-Min Son scored the first goal after just four minutes, beating the Dortmund goalie, Roman Burki, at his near post.

Dortmund equalised through Andriy Yarmolenko in the 11th minute but Harry Kane restored their lead, again beating Burki at the near post, just four minutes later.

The rest of the half was a nervy affair, with Dortmund coming close on a number of occasions, but Harry Kane’s second gave Spurs the breathing room they needed.

This Is Futbol rates the Tottenham players out of 10 as they earned a vital three points, but not everyone enjoyed the night, with two midfielders getting just 5/10.
