Tottenham took a vital step towards qualifying for the knockout stages of this season’s Champions League, with three points against a tough Borussia Dortmund team.

Tottenham were under the cosh for large parts of the first half, but still went in to the break 2-1 up courtesy of goals from Heung-Min Son and Harry Kane.

Dortmund appeared to have punched themselves out in the second half and they were completely deflated after Kane’s second goal made it 3-1.

However, with the score at just 2-1, Dortmund had a goal wrongly disallowed for offside, which could have made the outcome very different.

The one downer on the night for Tottenham was the late red card for Jan Vertonghen.

He was adjudged to have used his arm illegally to hold off a Dortmund player, but the decision looked very harsh.

He’ll miss one game but thankfully for Tottenham it will be against group outsiders Apoel Nicosia.
