Support for Rangers has come from an unlikely source ahead of the first Old Firm clash of the season.

Celtic midfielder James Forrest has said that Rangers will be Celtic’s biggest threat this season, despite finishing third in the Premiership last season, behind Aberdeen.

Talking to the BBC, Forrest was asked if Rangers would be Celtic’s big rivals in the league this season and he replied, “Definitely.

“They’ve spent a good wee bit in the summer, but we can’t focus on that. We just have to concentrate on ourselves.”

“When you play Rangers at Ibrox or at Celtic Park, it’s always going to be a hard game.”

The Rangers v Celtic Old Firm clash kicks off on Saturday at midday.

OPINION

Aberdeen fans won’t be best pleased to hear James Forrest dismiss them this season. They finished runners-up to Celtic last season and they’re currently sandwiched between the two great rivals at the moment. Rangers are already five points behind Celtic at the top of the Premiership and that could be eight come Saturday afternoon. Celtic are the big favourites to get a win at the Ibrox and they’re still unbeaten in all domestic games. Rangers would love to be the team that derails that record but one thing that Forrest said is definitely true – it will be a tough game.
