Striker Moussa Dembele has revealed the secret behind Celtic’s success is “team work” and said “playing simple football is the hardest thing to do”.

Dembele’s incredible goal against St Johnstone in the 5-2 win in February has been nominated for the FIFA Puskás Award – given to the best goal of the year.

And the striker took to Twitter to rave about it and his teammates’ contribution.

In his first tweet he says, “Playing football is simple but playing simple football is the hardest thing to do.”

Before Dembele scores the goal there are 25 consecutive passes – and every player in the Celtic team touches the ball before the striker finishes the move.

And Dembele went on to say that the beauty of the goal wasn’t the finish, but the team work.

Celtic went the whole of last season unbeaten in domestic competitions and have started this season in the same ruthless manner.

Dembele’s side won the first Old Firm derby game of the season when they beat Rangers 2-0 at the Ibrox.

They’re already eight points ahead of their rivals with just seven games played.

OPINION

Dembele’s goal was football at its finest. It was a goal worth of any team and it proves why Celtic dominated Scottish football last season. Dembele is rightly enthused that the goal has been nominated for the FIFA Puskas award. And he’s also correct that it proves the Celtic teamwork – when it clicks – lifts his team streets ahead of their Scottish rivals. It’s set to be another long season for Rangers fans, who are probably already resigned to not challenging for the title. For Celtic, the question is whether they can go another season unbeaten. On Saturday’s evidence, the answer is yes.
