TV pundit Ian Wright has heaped praise on Chelsea striker Alvaro Morata and Man United’s Romelu Lukaku, but has said that of the two he’d prefer the Man United striker.

Talking in his column in the Sun, Wright talked about how ironic it is that both teams wanted the other striker as their first choice over the summer.

He said Man United’s first choice was Alvaro Morata and Chelsea were intent on signing Lukaku.

As it turned out, both players went the opposite way – and Wright says it’s worked out for both teams.

Both players have scored six goals in six Premier League games, with Morata just pipping Lukaku in terms of minutes per goal (76 to Lukaku’s 90).

The Chelsea striker caught up with Lukaku with a hat-trick against Stoke on Saturday.

Talking in the Sun, Wright said, “Morata gives them [Chelsea] something else — the ability to create a goal from nothing, as he did with the second of his hat-trick at Stoke.

“His movement is superb, his pace frightening, and on Saturday he was as close to unplayable as you’ll get and could have scored at least five.”

However, Wright added, “Yet if I had to take just one of the pair it would be Lukaku — simply because he has such a massive improvement still to come.”

Man United are currently in second place in the Premier League on 16 points, just behind their neighbours Man City on goal difference.

Chelsea are behind them in third with 13 points.

OPINION

Chelsea manager Antonio Conte introduced Morata slowly into the Premier League but it hasn’t taken him long to adapt. Wright is correct – he looks unplayable at the moment and this season’s Golden Boot looks like the most competitive yet. Man City’s Sergio Aguero is also on six goals and meet Chelsea next weekend. Man United host Crystal Palace which gives Lukaku the perfect opportunity to surge ahead. Crystal Palace have had an awful start to the season and haven’t scored a goal in six games. They’ve conceded 13 goals and Lukaku must be licking his lips at the prospect.
