David Henen has revealed that he will remain at Everton for the foreseeable future as the striker believes he has unfinished business at Goodison Park.

Henen, 21, is in the final year of his contract at the Merseyside club and currently sits way down the pecking order behind Wayne Rooney, Sandro Ramirez and even Oumar Niasse after the latter remained at the club after deadline day.

Posting on his personal Twitter account, Belgian forward Henen revealed that he and the club had held extensive talks with the club before stating that he believes it is the “right decision” for him to remain.

A five-time Belgium Under-19 international, Henen is yet to feature for Ronald Koeman’s first team after joining the Toffees back in August 2014, but is a constant fixture of the club’s second string.

Henen has made 40 Premier League 2 appearances for the club after joining from Greek giants Olympiacos, scoring seven goals and adding five assists in that time.

Now, in the final year of his contract with Everton, Henen will be looking to gain a place in the first team and prove to Everton and the club’s fans that he is worth a new deal.

OPINION

Henen has shown in Premier League 2 that he has plenty of quality, whether it be on the flanks or as a centre-forward as well as an eye for goal and the ability to unlock a defence. With Everton lacking in a centre-forward following the loss of Romelu Lukaku to Manchester United and the heel injury sustained by Sandro Ramirez, Henen could be handed his first-team debut and the chance to shine in Koeman’s side in the near future. The Toffees are competing on four fronts and that could increase the chances of seeing Henen lead the line in the blue of Everton this season.
