Everton are lining up a January raid for Arsenal striker Olivier Giroud, according to the Mirror.

The newspaper claim that the Toffees are set to launch a mega £40million bid to try land the France international.

It is understood that Ronald Koeman is set to force through the deal after failing to sign the 30-year-old in the summer window when the deal collapsed.

The report details that Giroud was keen on moving to Goodison Park as he has not guarantee over first-team football at the Emirates Stadium.

Giroud is a commanding forward that is recognised for his physical presence and has been a prolific scorer for Arsenal, netting 99 goals in 235 club appearances.

Good move for Everton?

It is blatantly obvious that Everton need a centre-forward to try help fill the void left by Romelu Lukaku and Giroud would be a good option.

The target man will be desperate to prove himself ahead of the 2018 World Cup as he looks to ensure his spot in the France squad.

He has shown that he can lead the line effectively in England’s top flight and would score goals at Goodison Park.

However, the serious issue is the £40million offer that has been mentioned and that is far too much for a 30-year-old.

Likely to happen?

Giroud leaving Arsenal in January seems like it could happen as he is currently being used mainly as a substitute by manager Arsene Wenger.

The striker is good enough to be earning regular starting XI action at most clubs in the division and Everton would certainly be a good destination.

Koeman seems determined to land his target in the next window and it would be no surprise to see him on Merseyside in January.
