Gary Lineker was blown away with the quality of Tottenham striker Harry Kane after the win over Borussia Dortmund and compared him to Premier League legend Alan Shearer.

The 24-year-old netted a brace on Wednesday as Spurs beat German side Borussia Dortmund 3-1 in the Champions League group stages.

He managed a goal in each half with powerful strikes that were too difficult for goalkeeper Roman Burki to keep out.

Kane’s double followed up the two goals he scored against Everton last weekend in the Premier League as he hits a purple patch of form at the beginning of September.

Lineker raved about the centre-forward after the match and compared him to the Premier League’s all-time record goalscorer Shearer, who netted a stunning 260 times.

“He reminds me a little of Alan Shearer,” Lineker told BT Sport, as cited by Youtube channel Only Foot. “Not that quick but a strong, big, powerful [centre-forward], good touch without being phenomenal, can dribble a little bit and can score from everywhere.”

OPINION

Kane is certainly fast becoming the modern-day Shearer and is being tipped to challenge his goalscoring record. The 24-year-old is still yet to enter the peak of his career and will challenge it if he continues in the same way. His next challenge is now to make the impact on the European stage and the Dortmund win was a good start. The upcoming ties with Real Madrid will be the perfect test to put himself up against the best and he could become the talisman to help them go deep in the tournament. Kane has a bit of everything to his game and really does have the world at his feet. Silverware is the one major thing missing on his CV, but Mauricio Pochettino’s team are certainly strong enough to end that drought this season.
