Wes Foderingham has said that Pedro Caixinha’s new-look back four is playing well, but said there’s still room for improvement.

He was speaking in the pre-Old Firm press conference on Thursday lunchtime.

“The new back four is playing well defensively but we still have plenty room to improve,” Foderingham said.

“The fact we have only had around 11 shots on target against us is testament to the work of the defence

The first Old Firm derby of the season kicks-off at midday on Saturday and it’s Caixinha’s first crack at Celtic with his new-look squad. He’ll be desperately hoping to get something out of the game at Ibrox, after a disastrous encounter the last time the two teams met. That was at Ibrox too in April, when Celtic smashed the Gers 5-1. Since then Caixinha has completely revamped the Rangers first team, although they’ve had mixed success so far this season. They already sit five points behind Celtic at the top of the Premiership table and another defeat here would probably wipe out any chance they’ve got of competing for the league. A victory though, would give Caixinha and his men a massive boost and prove to the world that they’re ready to re-engage in one of the football world’s biggest rivalries. Foderingham is right about the defence and they’ll be hoping Bruno Alves is fit for the clash. Rangers have conceded eight goals in the Premiership – the most of any team in the top four. Celtic have only conceded three. They need to tighten up and the Old Firm clash will be the toughest test.
