Outspoken manager Harry Redknapp has claimed that he felt his Birmingham side “dominated” Leeds United at Elland Road on Tuesday night.

Samu Saiz and Stuart Dallas scored in each half to give Leeds a 2-0 win and put themselves top of the Championship table while Birmingham slumped into the relegation zone.

Redknapp is under intense pressure at St. Andrew’s after a poor start to the campaign despite him spending a lot of money in the summer transfer window to improve his squad.

However his baffling claim about how the events unfolded on Tuesday night perhaps sound like a man who is feeling the heat after he tried to deflect what was a poor result for his Blues side.

“We played great the other night at Leeds, we were excellent. We dominated Leeds, who are an outstanding team. I thought we were the better side,” said the ex-Tottenham boss to TalkSport on Thursday, as quoted on their official website.

“It was 1-0 in the last ten minutes, you’ve got six people up the park trying to get the equaliser and suddenly you get hit on the counter-attack and they score.

“People who didn’t watch the game probably think, ‘oh 2-0, they were well beat’, but we played fantastic.

“We’ll be alright. We’ll be fine, I’ve got no doubts about that.”

Stats suggest that it was a fairly even encounter between Leeds and Birmingham but if anything it was edged by Thomas Christiansen’s men, who firing more shots at goal while only just losing out in the possession game.

OPINION

Redknapp needs to get things right as quick as possible at Birmingham otherwise his managerial career could be ending on a very low note. The Mirror has claimed that he is under pressure to keep his job and this comment about “dominating” Leeds is either completely deluded or a clever ploy to try and get some of the fans back on side. In reality, Blues were nowhere near dominating the Whites. Christiansen’s side didn’t play at their full potential but they didn’t need to. Redknapp will be out of a job before October unless he gets a couple of wins in the coming weeks.
