OPINION

Leeds proved that they’ve got quality and depth in their squad when Thomas Christiansen named a side with nine changes that knocked Premier League Burnley out of the League Cup at Turf Moor.

Leeds more than matched Burnley in the first half, although Charlie Taylor was a constant menace down the left-hand side – which didn’t make the Leeds fans happy.

Scott Arfield had the best chance of the half for Burnley but put it just wide after a great run from Sam Vokes.

The second half was much better and Leeds made the breakthrough in the 80th minute after a double substitution from Thomas Christiansen.

Pablo Hernandez found Hadi Sacko with a fantastic ball and the 23-year-old put it through Pope’s legs.

Two converted penalties – one for either side – seemed to secure the win for Leeds, but there was late drama as Robbie Brady smashed a beautiful free-kick past Andy Lonergan, in the 87th minute.

That was it until penalties and Andy Lonergan saved one, as the Leeds players all converted to win the tie in dramatic fashion.
