Aston Villa manager Steve Bruce has heaped huge praise on Albert Adomah following his impressive performance on the weekend and revealed that the forward will feature in the next match.

The 29-year-old scored a brace on Saturday afternoon as Villa picked up only their second Championship victory of the season after beating Barnsley 3-0 at Oakwell.

The forward made the most of a poor mistake from Barnsley goalkeeper Adam Davies to open the scoring before excellently executing a penalty to give his side a 2-0 lead before the interval.

Youngster Kienan Davis scored his first goal for the club after the break to seal the win for Villa which lifts them up to 13th place in the Championship table.

Adomah, who was only starting his second league match of the campaign, impressed throughout the 90 minutes and his display certainly didn’t go unnoticed by his manager who mentioned that the forward would feature in the midweek Carabao Cup match against Middlesborough.

“He’s responded in the right way,” Bruce told the Birmingham Mail.

“He’s responded by saying to me ‘How dare you leave me out?’

“The good thing about him is he didn’t sulk. He’s bounced into today.

“Certainly he’s playing next week. How could I leave him out after that?”

OPINION

Bruce has been under pressure this season after the team failed to meet the high expectations following a busy transfer window. Before Saturday’s result, Villa had drawn their last three league matches and failed to score in their past two home games. However, Adomah’s contribution helped them on their way to three big points and the team appeared to regain more confidence as the match went on. The forward certainly deserves a chance to stake his claim as a starter following his display and his presence also seemed to benefit youngster Davies who not only scored but won the penalty in the first-half. If Bruce can get the two players alongside last season’s talisman Jonathan Kodija linking up together on a regular basis, Villa could easily be challenging for a place in the playoffs.
