Boyd criticises Caixinha for Miller decision

|

Kris Boyd has slammed Rangers manager Pedro Caixinha for the way in which he has recently treated the club’s striker Kenny Miller.

The BBC recently reported that the Rangers boss has ordered the 37-year-old to play for the Under-20 squad following a bust-up in the aftermath of the Old Firm derby match.

Miller started on the substitutes bench against Celtic last weekend where Rangers suffered a disappointing 2-0 defeat at Ibrox.

The Scot was left out of the matchday squad entirely in the Friday night SPL match against Hamilton where Rangers managed to record an impressive 4-1 away victory.

Although the striker has failed to hit the heights this season, he has still contributed with two goals and three assists in all competitions.

Writing in his column for the Scottish Sun, former Rangers forward Boyd believes that Caixinha is out for line for dropping one of the most experienced players in the squad.

“Caixinha’s decision to leave Miller out of his squad for the cup tie at Partick Thistle, and then the trip to Hamilton, is bamboozling,” he wrote.

“I’m sorry, but how come Miller was the first man he turned to last week when Celtic went 1-0 ahead?

“How can he be the guy you think can change a game one week, and then be bombed out the next?

“For me, Caixinha has taken on Miller as the biggest name at Ibrox to try and convince everyone he’s a tough guy.

“But if Caixinha expects the red carpet he’s kidding himself on.”

OPINION

Boyd has made an excellent point regarding this Miller-Caixinha situation. Why would the Rangers boss turn to him in the biggest game of the season so far and then decide to omit him completely from the squad in the space of a week? There is surely more to come from this story but it appears that Caixinha has taken a big risk in taking one of the leading men in the Rangers dressing so early on in the season. This decision could potentially come back and haunt the Portuguese further down the line but if his side continue to pick up important results in Miller’s absence, he will be vindicated.
