West Ham were linked with a move for Manchester City forward Kelechi Iheanacho earlier in the summer window, but he is now close to completing a move to Leicester.

Sky Sports report that the 20-year-old is undergoing a medical with the Foxes on Tuesday as that deal edgers nearer.

Leicester have “agreed in principal” a fee with Manchester City that could rise to £25million for the highly-rated striker.

However, the Hammers should not be disheartened by that as their decision not to pursue Iheanacho meant they completed a deal for Javier Hernandez.

Both could play major roles next season in the Premier League, but West Ham may have the better player for the immediate future.

Hernandez is proven in England from his time with Manchester United, where he scored 59 goals in 158 appearances.

The 29-year-old has now returned to the Premier League for a second bite of the cherry and is set to be the first-choice striker at the London Stadium ahead of Andy Carroll.

He is one of the outstanding signings made by manager Slaven Bilic this summer and should be able to hit the ground running in front of goal.

Hernandez managed 13 goals last year for Bundesliga club Bayer Leverkusen and is now ready to tear up the Premier League again with his blistering pace and prolific touch.

Meanwhile, Iheanacho is still an unknown talent and West Ham have the safer option in picking up Hernandez.

Iheanacho is a promsing young forward that deserves for game time that Man City can offer and a move to Leicester should bring out the best in him.

The Nigeria international has scored 21 goals in 64 appearances for Man City, which is particularly impressive given his lack of time on the pitch.

However, it is unclear whether he will be able to handle the pressure of being the top striker at a Premier League club and West Ham can look forward to the season with their own exciting attackers.
