Chelsea have been linked with a shock move for Leicester midfielder Danny Drinkwater and many people have laughed at the idea of a proposed move.

Sky Sports claim that Antonio Conte’s side are interested in signing the 27-year-old this summer as they search for potential replacements for Nemanja Matic.

The Blues are keen to add another central midfielder in the window and the Foxes ace has been named as an option, but Leicester insist that their player is not for sale.

Chelsea’s interest in Drinkwater has been scoffed at already by many fans, but there are several reasons in favour of the England international moving to Stamford Bridge.

The Londoners already have N’Golo Kante, Cesc Fabregas and Tiemoue Bakayoko as central midfield options, but beyond that youngster Lewis Baker is their only alternative.

They desperately need to add another figure for the centre of the park as they can’t hope to keep in both domestic and European competitions with just four central midfielders.

Conte’s side already have some very capable players in that position and only need to add someone who can fill a role in the squad.

Understandably supporters want to another high profile arrive this summer, but they are already blessed with world-class talents in the midfield area of the pitch.

Drinkwater has the potential to be a great fit for Chelsea despite question marks over whether he has the quality to play for the reigning Premier League champions.

The Leicester ace played an integral role in the Foxes winning the title in the 2015//16 campaign and struck up a memorable partnership alongside Kante, something that can be rekindled at Stamford Bridge.

Meanwhile, he has everything required to play in Conte’s 3-4-3 formation as his work-rate means he is ideal for the centre of the pitch.

Victor Moses proved last season to be a star player for Chelsea and nobody anticipated that, but Italian boss Conte knows how to get the best out of players.

Drinkwater is also technically very gifted and has a brilliant range of passing, something which would be highlighted more by playing alongside a higher calibre of player.

The midfielder would also help Chelsea increase their homegrown quota and there is a shortage of English talents around the first team at Stamford Bridge.

He is unlikely to demand a place in the Blues starting line-up next season, but any doubters are writing of somebody that has won a Premier League title and has Champions League experience under his belt.

Drinkwater has managed to carve out a very successful domestic career despite failing to cut the grade with Manchester United, and he has continued to step up whatever the challenge.
