Rangers are reportedly set to hand goalkeeper Wes Foderingham a new improved contract to deter interested suitors Nottingham Forest.

Football Insider claim that the Gers are keen to keep the 26-year-old this summer despite interest from English Championship side Forest, who are managed by Mark Warburton.

It is understood that the Scottish giants want to extend his existing two-year contract at Ibrox and give him a significant pay rise as a reward for his performances.

The report details that Foderingham is settled with Rangers and he has become an important player since he joined in 2015.

Good move for Rangers?

Foderingham is a very frustrating player for Rangers fans as he can be a match winner one week and the villain in the next.

The Englishman is a brilliant shot stopper and has kept Rangers in games single handedly at times.

However, there are still question marks over his distribution and he was poor in the club’s recent 3-2 defeat to Hibernian in the league.

Foderingham has the quality to be the Gers number one on a permanent basis, but for now could find himself under pressure from teammate Jan Alnwick.

He still has two years remaining on his contract and Rangers should re-evaluate his form at the end of the season to see if he deserves an improved deal.

Likely to happen?

It makes sense that Rangers will tie Foderingham to a new deal as Forest seem very keen on his signature.

Former Gers manager Warburton has already signed Barrie McKay from Ibrox this summer and wants to make Foderingham his latest signing.

Pedro Caixinha has used the goalkeeper as his number one option at the start of the season and he looks to be firmly in his plans going forward.

Foderingham looks most likely to stay in Scotland for now despite playing for the likes of Swindon and Crystal Palace in England before.
