Arsenal icon Ray Parlour believes that West Ham would be a “perfect fit” for Jack Wilshere should he leave the Emirates this summer.

Wilshere, 25, is facing an uncertain future at Arsenal having being sent out on loan to Bournemouth last season and the Telegraph reported in July that the Hammers and Newcastle were both interested in the £20million-valued playmaker.

The England international suffered a fractured leg while playing for the Cherries in April, and although he is nearing a comeback having played for the Arsenal Under-23 side recently, it remains to be seen whether or not he will be able to get back into Arsene Wenger’s plans.

Parlour, 44, believes that a switch to the London Stadium would be a good move for Wilshere due to his commitments to his family, meaning that a move abroad could be out of the question.

“West Ham would be a great fit for him,” said Parlour to radio station TalkSport, as shown in a video on Alan Brazil’s Sports Breakfast’s official Twitter account on Friday morning.

“He’s got young children and you know if you go abroad he won’t be seeing them kids on a regular basis. He wants to be part of their lives growing up so he wants to stay in England if he can.

“West Ham would be a perfect fit, definitely.”

Wilshere, a product of the Arsenal academy, has suffered with many injuries during his career but has still managed to earn 160 appearances across all competitions for the Gunners.

The 34-times England international performed well for Bournemouth last term, but despite staying clear of injury for most of the campaign, he suffered a fractured leg while playing at White Hart Lane in his side’s 4-0 loss to Tottenham.

OPINION

West Ham could do with some extra creativity in their side, but Wilshere largely failed to show that he was capable of helping a mid-table team out in Bournemouth last season. Another injury blow means that the midfielder could be even worse now than he was before. Although the move would make sense for Wilshere, it would be risky for the Hammers and they should steer clear of signing yet another sick-note.
