Thierry Henry has hailed the signing of West Ham’s new forward Javier Hernandez and expects him to be a success at the London Stadium.

The 29-year-old completed a move back to the Premier League this summer and is expected to be the frontline striker for the Hammers.

The ex-Manchester United ace linked up with Slaven Bilic’s side in a £16million deal and will face his former side at Old Trafford on the opening day of the season.

Hernandez was in good form for German side Bayer Leverkusen and scored 13 goals in 36 appearances.

Sky Spots pundit Henry has backed the Mexican to do well for West Ham and was not surprised to see him become the latest superstar to join the London club.

“It looks like a very, very good buy for West Ham,” Henry told Sky Sports. “He knows the league and he has the experience of playing for two of the biggest teams in the world in Manchester United and Real Madrid.

“I wasn’t surprised to see him join West Ham because they have a history of luring players like that to the club. They had Paolo Di Canio and more recently Dimitri Payet. So there is a bit of history there. I think Chicharito will do well.”

Hernandez is one of five new arrivals at West Ham this summer, joining Joe Hart, Pablo Zabaleta, Marko Arnautoivc and Sead Haksabanovic at the club.

OPINION

Hernandez could turn out to be one of the bargains of the season at £16million and can help fire West Ham up the table. They have a brilliant new stadium in place and will be keen to rectify a disappointing season last year. Hernandez can be the prolific striker to fire 15-20 Premier League goals and there is no reason the Hammers can’t be breaking up into the European spots. The Mexico international has proven himself to be prolific in front of goal and there is the potential to form a great partnership alongside Andy Carroll.
