OPINION

Everton are reportedly considering a late move in the transfer window for Watford striker Stefano Okaka.

The Mirror claim that the Toffees are plotting a loan move for the 28-year-old as they look to fill the void left by Romelu Lukaku’s departure to Manchester United this summer.

It is understood that Ronald Koeman is a big fan of the Italian after he scored twice at Goodison Park last season.

Okaka has slipped down the pecking order at Watford behind the likes of Andre Gray and Richarlison, which has left Toffees boss pondering whether or not to make a loan swoop.

Good move for Everton?

Everton have enjoyed for the most part a very good window and have strengthened considerably in most areas of the pitch, but have left a new striker to the last minute.

They have purchased attackers in the shape of Wayne Rooney and Sandro Ramirez, but clearly need a target man that can the lead the line.

Okaka does to an extent fit the ball of being a commanding striker that is renowned for his pace and power.

The four-time capped Italy international could spearheaded the attack well and would get more chances playing alongside better players.

However, he has never been a prolific goalscorer during his career and managed four last season in 20 games for Watford.

Everton should have focused on a new central striker earlier in the window and now may have to make do with Okaka.

Likely to happen?

It is getting desperately late in the transfer window and Everton may have to press ahead with a move for Okaka.

The striker is not considered a first-choice option at Watford and that could tempt them in allowing him to leave this summer.

Koeman will realise it’s imperative another forward is signed in the next two days to help compete for a place and has already seen his squad stretched due to their European commitments.
