OPINION

Leeds midfielder Liam Bridcutt looks to have sealed a move to Championship rivals Nottingham Forest, according to a report.

Football Insider report that the player, who was captain last year under Garry Monk, has agreed the move which looks set to be done in the next two days.

Bridcutt wasn’t included in the Leeds squad that beat Sunderland 2-0 in the Championship yesterday evening, and this hinted that a move was imminent.

Bridcutt is under contract with Leeds until next summer and it looks like they’re set to cash in on the player who joined last summer after a good loan spell.

It is reported that talks have progressed well and that the move is set to be completed in the next 48 hours, although there’s no mention of the fee.

Good move for Leeds?

Bridcutt made 53 appearances for Leeds and was the captain under Garry Monk, and although manager Thomas Christiansen has said that he was still in his plans, his team selection didn’t back this up. Most fans won’t be too sorry to see him go. He didn’t contribute a lot last season, despite showing leadership as the captain, and he’s obviously dropped a long way down the pecking order. Better that Leeds get some cash for him now, with his contract set to expire next summer, than lose him on a free.

Likely to happen?

According to Football Insider sources, the player has agreed the move and is set to tie things up in the next 48 hours. He was the second notable absentee from the Leeds squad to face Sunderland yesterday – along with wantaway striker Chris Wood – and that seemed to suggest a move was imminent. This is a move we fully expect to happen and it’s a good deal for both clubs. Nottingham Forest will get a player who’s more than capable of doing a job in the Championship, and Leeds will get some extra cash to help solve their striker problem. Time is running out though, so Thomas Christiansen is going to have to move fast.
