Ronald Koeman must do his homework if he is to orchestrate an Everton victory on Thursday night as the Toffees face Hajduk Split in the first leg of their Europa League play-off.

Everton play host to the Croatian giants at Goodison Park, as they look to see off the challenge of Joan Carrillo’s side and earn a place in the group stages of the Europa League.

Koeman must decide between using a three-man defence or switching to a back four, after changing his side’s system against Stoke at half-time on Saturday during the Toffees’ 1-0 win.

However, he will be without new club-record signing Gylfi Sigurdsson who is not deemed fit enough to partake, while Sandro Ramirez remains a doubt. Ramiro Funes Mori, Seamus Coleman and James McCarthy remain sidelined.

Carrillo’s side scored 70 league goals last season and possess a number of attackers who have the ability to unhinge the Toffees defence.
