Tottenham have agreed a deal for Estudiantes defender Juan Foyth, according to Sky Sources.

Sky reported the news on their Transfer Blog (1pm) on Monday afternoon.

This looks like bringing to an end a long-running transfer saga for Spurs, after it was reported last month by Diario Hoy that Tottenham were preparing to table a second offer for the young Argentine defender.

The Argentine media outlet had claimed that Spurs’ initial bid was for £5.4million.

It was reported earlier by ESPN that Paris Saint-Germain were keen on the 19-year-old defender too, but after a personal intervention by Spurs manager Mauricio Pochettino, Foyth decided that he wanted to move to the Premier League.

Good move for Tottenham?

Tottenham fans won’t know a lot about Foyth – he’s only made six senior appearances for Estudiantes – but manager Mauricio Pochettino is said to be a big fan of the young player and that should be good enough. He’s performed for the Argentina Under-20 squad and will be one for the future, although it looks like he could still command a fairly hefty fee. If reports are to be believed, Spurs had a £5.4m offer for the player rejected back in July so Pochettino is obviously expecting big things from him and he’s the right manager to take on such a promising youngster. Sky Sports called him “one of the most talented young defenders in world football” which should excite Tottenham fans everywhere.

Likely to happen?

The deal looks increasingly likely to happen, with Sky sources saying that a deal has been agreed. Personal terms are unlikely to be an issue which would just leave a medical to progress the move through before Thursday. At this rate, Foyth could even get pushed through before the reportedly complicated deal for Serge Aurier is completed. That’s still waiting on paperwork which would see the PSG defender able to enter the country.
