Rafa Benitez should finally look to add a goalkeeper to his Newcastle squad by taking advantage of Tottenham’s pursuit of Southampton’s Paulo Gazzaniga and swoop for Michel Vorm.

ESPN claim Mauricio Pochettino is looking to form a reunion with Argentinian goalkeeper Gazzaniga as he looks to replace the loss of Pau Lopez, who joined Spurs on loan for the 2016-17 season.

However, without Lopez, Spurs have been left with just Hugo Lloris and Vorm and need a third goalkeeper in order to rival the duo ahead of what will be a busy campaign with their participation in the Champions League.

But former Swansea stopper Vorm may look to leave the north London outfit if they do bring in 25-year-old Gazzaniga this summer, as his career begins to stagnate on the substitutes bench at Tottenham.

Newcastle have been keen to sign a goalkeeper all summer, after missing out on Willy Caballero who moved to Chelsea while a move for Pepe Reina seems to be all but over.

Former Liverpool manager Benitez could turn his attention towards Vorm with Spurs looking to bring Gazzaniga to the Wembley Stadium, and finally end his hunt for a new goalkeeper.

Vorm, 32, is likely to be available on the cheap this summer with only 12 months still to run on his existing Spurs contract, which could see Pochettino offload him now rather than risk losing him on a free next summer.

The 15-time Holland international has huge Premier League experience at both ends of the table, helping Swansea remain in the division while battling with Spurs for the trophy.

Just one appearance shy of a century of top-flight appearances in England, Vorm could now look to move by signalling his debut at Newcastle with his 100th Premier League outing.

Newcastle already have an abundance of goalkeepers available to them, but they are not considered top flight quality.

Karl Darlow was at fault for a number of errors last season, while Rob Elliot and Tim Krul have just returned from long-term knee problems. Freddie Woodman is expected to join Matz Sels in leaving on loan, after speaking to the Evening Chronicle.

Vorm is likely to be available on the cheap, a proven Premier League performer and an improvement on the Toon’s current options. Grabbing his signature would prove a major coup and could be key in Newcastle’s fight against an instant return to the Championship.
