Tottenham’s young centre-back Cameron Carter-Vickers has signed a new three-year deal and joined Sheffield United on loan until the end of the season.

The news was announced on the official Tottenham Twitter page on Friday afternoon.

The promising defender also signed a new three-year contract before he left to join up with Chris Wilder at Bramall Lane.

19-year-old Carter-Vickers has come up through the Tottenham youth ranks and has made four senior appearances in the FA and EFL Cup, as well as sitting on the bench for a number of Premier League fixtures.

The United-States born enforcer has also made two appearances for the USA Under-20s team.

The official Sheffield United site said that Carter-Vickers would be eligible to play in the game against Derby County on Saturday.

United manager Wilder said, “Cameron is young, athletic and highly-rated by Tottenham and we’re delighted we’ve been trusted to continue his development.

“He is a central defender with a good attitude and adds competition for places in that area. I like the way Tottenham play and it’s clear that Cameron has the ability to be a very good player.”

This comes after Tottenham signed Kyle Walker-Peters on a new contract until 2020, on Wednesday.

A good move for Carter-Vickers?

It’s a very good move for all parties. Sheffield United get near-Premier league quality cover in defence at the perfect time, after it was announced that Richard Stearman will be out for around six to eight weeks. Carter-Vickers gets to play for a good team that will hope to be pushing near to the top half of the Championship this season, and possibly better. He’s already broken through into the Tottenham senior team and with a new three-year contract under his belt he’s obviously seen as a hot prospect for the future. The bruising Championship will give him all the experience he needs to return and make a push for a first-team place under Mauricio Pochettino next season.
