OPINION

Championship side Hull City are reportedly interested in signing Newcastle midfielder Jack Colback on loan before the end of the summer window.

The Chronicle claim Leonid Slutsky’s Hull City would be willing to stump up a percentage of the 27-year-old’s wages if they can secure a loan move for him before Thursday’s 11pm deadline.

It is said that Colback is just one of a number of transfer targets for Hull this summer and the club are expected to make an offer to sign the former Sunderland ace before the end of the window.

Colback has no future at St. James’ Park and is one of a number of players reportedly told that they can leave Newcastle this summer, after he was left out of Rafa Benitez’s 25-man Premier League squad.

This Is Futbol considers whether allowing the combative midfielder to leave is a good idea, and how likely a deal can be struck before the end of the window.

Good move for Newcastle?

Newcastle are desperately trying to raise enough cash to bring in new players this summer, as Benitez becomes more and more frustrated with his side’s lack of transfer activity.

So loaning Colback to Hull instead of selling him on a permanent basis is a move that the Toon should look to avoid, unless there is absolutely no chance they can get sell him.

With Hull said to be willing to pay some of his wages, at least there will be more flexibility regarding the wage bill but Benitez would much prefer to sell Colback outright.

If the Toon can convince Hull to buy Colback permanently and get what is likely to be around £4million, then they would be getting a good deal. But a loan move is not the best option for the Toon.

Likely to happen?

With only two days remaining in the transfer window, a permanent deal is becoming less and less likely and for the good of Colback’s career, Newcastle must not stand in his way from leaving the club.

That means that even if a loan offer is to come in from Hull, the Toon should accept it and be done with their number four.

Colback was poor for the Toon last season and he came under constant criticism for playing too safe and passing the ball backwards.

With the signing of Mikel Merino, he has fallen even further down the pecking order and offloading to Hull would make room for another signing if Benitez has the cash.
