Manchester United supporters have reacted positively on social media after manager Jose Mourinho confirmed that the club have held discussions with Zlatan Ibrahimovic about a possible return to Old Trafford.
Speaking in his press conference on Friday afternoon ahead of their opening Premier League match against West Ham United this weekend, Mourinho, as quoted on the club’s official website, stated that the 35-year-old could potentially rejoin the squad in the latter stages of next season.
“I just think he was very clear by showing what he did last year was not enough for him,” he said.
“He thinks he can do more, he wants more at football’s highest level, so we are having conversations and we are discussing the possibility of him staying with us for the second part of the season.”
The Manchester club decided to release the former Sweden international from his contract earlier this summer after he picked up a serious cruciate ligament injury at the end of last season.
The fans from the red side of Manchester were quick to respond on social media and the majority of them are excited to potentially see the charismatic striker return to the fold next season.

The striker enjoyed a wonderful debut campaign in England last season, finishing as the club’s top goalscorer with 28 goals in all competitions.
Ibrahimovic scored an important brace as United beat fellow Premier League side Southampton 3-2 in February to lift the EFL Cup for the first time since 2010.
With the Swede likely to return to action after the new year, he could potentially form a menacing partnership with summer signing Romelu Lukaku up front for United.
Ibrahimovic will be desperate to win the Premier League title and finally try and get his hands on the Champions League, which is the only trophy missing from his illustrious club career.
