Liverpool striker Divock Origi is closing in on a loan move to Wolfsburg, according to a reliable journalist.

Paul Joyce, a journalist with the Times, released a tweet on Wednesday afternoon saying that the Bundesliga club were “very keen” on Origi and were willing to pay a substantial fee.

He also added that Liverpool want him to move abroad rather than stay in the Premier League.

Kristof Terreur, a journalist with close Belgian Premier League links, tweeted saying that Wolfsburg were pushing for Origi, and added “time’s ticking.”

Keith Downie, a journalist with Sky Sports also reported the news, saying that Liverpool were open to the idea of Origi going abroad on loan.

Good move for Liverpool?

Origi had a few shots at the Liverpool first team and looked good, but with their array of dazzling attacking options it was clear he was going to struggle to make an impact this season. Lots of clubs were keen Origi but Liverpool want him to go abroad to gain experience, so this is a move that suits all parties. Wolfsburg get a very talented attacker and Origi will get to play first-team football ahead of the 2018 World Cup.

Likely to happen?

Origi will be going somewhere before the end of the summer transfer window and if Liverpool want him to move abroad, Wolfbsurg would be one of the best clubs he could go to. They finished towards the bottom of the Bundesliga last season and desperately need someone to help fire them away from relegation troubles. Origi will see the move as beneficial as he’ll get regular first-team football in a top quality league. With the German club happy to pay a sizeable fee, we can see this one progressing quite rapidly.
