Chris Wood must continue his red-hot goalscoring form in the Championship with Leeds as Premier League outfit Burnley reportedly prepare a £15million offer for the striker.

The Sun claim Sean Dyche’s Burnley are interested in the 25-year-old target man and are ready to table an offer this weekend as they look to replace the loss of Andre Gray who has since joined Watford for £18million.

It is said that Leeds boss Thomas Christiansen has already made strides in the transfer market in order to replace his New Zealand international, with the report claiming Wood’s ambition could see him leave Elland Road.

Wood is set to spearhead the Yorkshire giants attack for the second time this season after scoring in Leeds’ opening Championship encounter against Bolton last Sunday, a match which the Whites won 3-2.

He continued his reputation as one of the most lethal goalscorers in England’s second division with a deft header from close range after wingers Kemar Roofe and Ezgjan Alioski combined to set the number nine up.

The former Leicester striker scored an impressive 30 goals last season in all competitions, topping the Championship goalscoring charts with 27 strikes as Leeds narrowly missed out on a place in the play-offs.

But if the report is true in stating that Wood is ambitious enough to leave the Whites and join a Premier League side, he must look to find the back of the net once again as Christiansen’s side play host to Burnley.

With three weeks remaining in the transfer window, Wood will continue to catch Burnley’s eye and convince the Lancashire-based side that they will be signing a top-class striker if he can score against the Lilywhites.

Indeed, if Wood wants to move to the Clarets this summer, he will need to show Burnley just why they are paying a huge eight-figure sum for his services and scoring against Preston will be the perfect way to do just that.

But it is not just scoring against Preston; Wood will also need to show how his hold-up play can bring other attackers into play, as well as showing hard work and determination to win the ball back when out of possession.

If he can show all those things with Burnley’s hierarchy likely to be looking on, then a bid is likely to be forthcoming for the powerful striker and a Premier League move will be in the offing for Wood.
