OPINION

Burnley are reportedly poised to make an offer for Leeds United striker Chris Wood this weekend.

The Sun claims that the Premier League side are set to launch a £15million bid for the 25-year-old centre-forward.

The newspaper claims that Burnley boss Sean Dyche believes that the New Zealand international would be the perfect man to replace Andre Gray, who recently joined fellow Premier League side Watford for £18million.

It is said that Wood is interested in plying his trade in the Premier League next season and Leeds boss Thomas Christiansen is lining up Hamburg striker Pierre-Michel Lasogga as a potential replacement.

Good move for Leeds?

Leeds will not be surprised that a top-flight side is interested in securing Wood’s signature this summer.

The striker was simply sensational for the club last season, finishing as the top goalscorer with an impressive tally of 30 goals to his name in all competitions.

Wood continued his fine form from the previous campaign with a brace in the opening match of the Championship season as Leeds came away with a 3-2 victory against newly-promoted Bolton Wanderers.

Leeds must surely demand more than £15million for their talisman if they are going to negotiate a potential summer move with Burnley.

The Elland Road faithful will be hoping that no amount of money can see the striker leave the club but if Leeds can get a decent amount of money for him, they still have time in the transfer market to bring in new faces.

Likely to happen?

Burnley are likely to pursue this transfer as they will be desperate to add more firepower to the squad ahead of their second consecutive season in the Premier League.

Leeds will be well aware that their promotion chances will take a severe knock should Wood depart but they surely cannot afford to keep hold of him with the player reportedly interested in a move away.

The more Wood keeps performing in the Championship, the higher his asking price will be therefore the Yorkshire club should try and fully test Burnley’s resolve and see how much they are willing to pay for the striker.

There is every chance that this transfer deal could go down to the final day of the summer window.
