Everton playmaker Davy Klaassen has made a slow start to his his career at Goodison Park and could do with a big performance on Thursday night against Hajduk Split.

The Toffees host the Croatian side in the Europa League play-off first leg match and will be aiming to get a good result ahead of the return match.

One man that is set to be under the spotlight is midfielder Klaassen who needs to start justifying his price tag in the next few weeks.

The 24-year-old will obviously need time to adapt to his new surroundings, but the Merseyside club did splash out £23.6million to sign him from Ajax.

He will be keen to score his first goal for the club and in truth he is yet to really show his qualities during his first three games.

Klaassen played just an hour on his Premier League debut against Stoke at the weekend before being replaced by youngster Tom Davies, who could put some real pressure on him for a starting berth.

Meanwhile, Everton have also confirmed the £45million signing of Gylfi Sigurdsson from Swansea and his arrival means that Klaassen could find it difficult to cement a starting XI spot.

Ronald Koeman has seriously strengthened his squad over the summer and has several strong options to fill in the number 10 role.

Morgan Schneiderin and Idrissa Gueye are the preferred options in the centre of the park, which could leave just one other midfielder slot available.

Everton could use either Klaassen, Sigurdsson, Davies or Wayne Rooney as options in the new season.

Klaassen certainly has the qualities to become a big player and he arrived in English football after impressing in Holland with Ajax.

The attacking midfielder made 50 appearances across all competitions last season, scoring 20 goals and supplying 12 assists in return.

He is a player that has brilliant technical ability and proved to be a real goal threat in the past.

Klaassen may need time adjusting to the physicality of English football and may find it easier in their Europa League tie on Thursday.

The Holland international is strangely already under some pressure to prove himself and will be keen to show Koeman the influence he can have on Everton going forward.
