Right-back Cuco Martina is set to join Everton this weekend, according to reliable journalist Paul Joyce.

The Times correspondent has reported on his personal Twitter account on Wednesday afternoon that the 27-year-old will be joining the Toffees in the coming days following his release from Southampton earlier in the summer.

The 31-time capped Curacao international was brought to England by current Everton manager Ronal Koeman in the summer of 2015 when he was manager of the Saints.

He ended up playing a frequent role in the south coast team’s line-up under Koeman, playing 18 times all competitions during his debut campaign and was often favoured over Cedric Soares for his physicality when playing against tough opposition.

However, following the departure of Koeman, Martina was limited to just nine Premier League games last season with his last league appearance coming all the way back in December during a 2-1 defeat against West Brom.

He will now joining the Everton team, who are looking for cover in the right-back position with star Seamus Coleman fracturing both his tibia and fibula in March.

The Toffees have had a busy summer so far and Martina would mark the club’s seventh signing of the window as they prepare for a Europa League campaign.
