Liverpool made contact with Aubameyang’s representatives

Liverpool and Chelsea have “made contact” with the representatives of Borussia Dortmund forward Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, according to the Sun.

The news outlet details that the two Premier League giants are keen to bring in the 28-year-old this summer and that he is at the centre of a tug of war between the two.

However, Liverpool are said to be in pole position to land the Gabon international, who could cost as much as £65million due to Jurgen Klopp pressing for his signing since April.

The German manager also worked with Aubameyang for two years between 2013 and 2015 and the two could now be close to being reunited in England.

But, there is also reported to be one obstacle in any deal, presenting Chelsea with a chance and that is owners Fenway Sports Group are reluctant to meet the £180,000-a-week wage demands.

Chelsea themselves are known for being more free with their money and the potential departure of Diego Costa could free up more wages available for the Gabon international.

However, Liverpool may also be keen to bring in a marquee signing this summer on their return to Champions League football and Aubameyang would certainly present that.

The striker bagged an extraordinary 40 goals in 46 matches in all competitions in the last campaign and still has three years remaining on his contract.
