Premier League rivals Leicester have made an enquiry for Everton midfield ace James McCarthy, according to the Daily Mail.

The news outlet has detailed that the 26-year-old is likely to leave Goodison Park this summer and this has brought a large interest from clubs within England’s top-flight.

However, despite his seemingly near exit it is also said that the Toffees value the Irishman as highly as £25million, which has deterred such clubs as Newcastle, West Brom and Crystal Palace.

But, 2016 Premier League winners Leicester are looking to overhaul their squad  this summer after a disappointing title defence and they could now be pushing forward with a move.

It is also said that a transfer could be financed by the sales of several players with it claimed that last summer midfield signing Nampalys Mendy could be on his way out.

The Foxes have already added to their midfield ranks this week with the purchase of Vicente Iborra from Sevilla and it is clearly an area that Craig Shakespeare is looking to strengthen.

McCarthy, who joined Everton in the summer of 2013 alongside Roberto Martinez from Wigan has also proven he has what it takes to play in the Premier League and he could be viewed as a realistic target for the Midlands club

Injuries over the last campaign have pushed the midfielder down the pecking order in Ronald Koeman’s team alongside the purchases of Idrissa Gueye and Morgan Schneiderlin as well as the emergence of youth star Tom Davies.

He still has three years remaining on his contract at Goodison Park, but he could be set for an early exit after playing just 13 times in all competitions last season.
