Lazio have completed the signing of Lucas Leiva from Liverpool, according to a reliable journalist.

Sky Italia reporter Gianluca Di Marzio claimed on his personal Twitter account on Friday that the midfielder’s transfer to the Serie A outfit is a done deal.

This comes after Times correspondent Paul Joyce claimed on his personal Twitter account earlier in the day that Lazio had tabled a £5million bid for the 30-year-old.

Lucas is currently the longest-serving player at Anfield, having joined the Merseyside club from Gremio in 2007.

He has since developed a key role in the heart of the Reds midfielder, but last season saw the Brazilian’s time in the squad limited as he struggled to compete with players like Emre Can and Adam Lallana for a starting berth.

The midfielder made 31 appearances across all competitions last term, with the bulk of them coming towards the back end of the season as Jurgen Klopp and his men secured a Champions League qualification spot.

Lazio are currently managed by Simone Inzaghi and just missed out on qualification for the Champions League last season and will instead compete in the Europa League after a fifth placed finish in Serie A.

The Rome-based outfit boasts some strong names in their side, including Balde Keita, Stefan de Vrij and Ciro Immobile.
