Liverpool legend Robbie Fowler has claimed in the Sunday Mirror that he has been told Tottenham could sign Bournemouth striker Josh King this summer.

Spurs are the only Premier League side who have not bought any player in the current transfer window and have already sold two senior defenders.

The landmark sale of Kyle Walker to Manchester City for a world-record fee for an English player of £50million was completed on Friday, followed by the announcement on Saturday night that Federico Fazio has joined Roma permanently after an impressive loan season.

Former striker Fowler expects Spurs to be active in bringing in new recruits over the coming weeks as manager Mauricio Pochettino aims to reshape his squad for a third consecutive title challenge.

He is convinced that one of the priorities is to sign a forward capable of providing top-calibre cover for main man Harry Kane, who was the Premier League’s top scorer with 29 goals in 2016-17.

“Spurs got lucky last season because Kane only had one injury spell and they did not miss him too much,” Fowler wrote in his weekly Sunday Mirror column. “But if he gets a bad one or struggles, they will need better quality as back-up.

“They will go and spend. There will be a striker coming in – I’ve heard Bournemouth’s Josh King is a possible – and despite the fact there have been a few misfires in recent years, they have been building a good quality squad.”

King has been linked with Spurs in recent weeks amid reports that Eddie Howe’s side have slapped a £30million price tag on him following his exploits last season.

The Norway international, 25, scored 16 league goals from 36 matches, with 14 of those strikes coming in the second half of the campaign.
