Everton told to pay £45m for Sigurdsson

Everton have been told by Swansea to smash their transfer record if they are to sign Gylfi Sigurdsson this summer, according to the Daily Mail.

The Toffees have already broken their transfer record this summer when bringing in emerging goalkeeper Jordan Pickford from Sunderland for a fee of £30million.

However, according to the Mail report they would have to top that fee by at least £15million without performance related add-ons to sign the 27-year-old Iceland international.

The £45million fee would also almost double Swansea’s record fee received, which currently stands at the £25million Manchester City paid for Wilfried Bony in January 2015, showing how much the Welsh club wants to keep hold of Sigurdsson.

The playmaker himself is reported to be attracted by a move to Ronald Koeman’s Everton team, but he is not going out of his way to push for a move and with Leicester also said to be interested the power is all with Swansea at this moment in time.

The Welsh club brought Sigurdsson back to the Liberty Stadium in the summer of 2014 after a disappointing stint at Tottenham.

He has since excelled again with Swansea and last season he proved key in helping them retain their Premier League status with a return of nine goals and 13 assists from his 38 league matches.

Sigurdsson is still contracted to Swansea until 2020 and while he would prove a fantastic signing for Everton, they will have to pay out big money to secure him.
