Outspoken pundit Chris Sutton has once more slammed Rangers, while hitting out at senior manager Pedro Caixinha following their Europa League defeat earlier this summer.

The Gers appointed the Portuguese boss in March following the departure of Mark Warburton and Caixinha was largely unknown in the United Kingdom with his management career previously seeing him in Qatar as the manager of Al-Gharafa Sports Club.

However, he has since made himself known off the pitch with such decisions as banning green boots from the club, while also naming his team 30 hours before a clash against Kilmarnock in April.

But, on the field he has not earned the desired results and after a third placed finish in the Premiership last season they have since been humiliated by Luxembourg-based side Progres Niederkorn in a 2-1 aggregate defeat in the Europa League first-round qualifying stage.

Now, Sutton has slammed the result with the Scottish domestic season getting underway on Saturday with the League Cup starting, while also digging at Caixinha for doing all of his talking to date off the pitch.

“It’s got nothing to do with summer football,” told Sutton speaking on BT Sport on Saturday afternoon, as shown by the official BT Sport Football Twitter account.

“Rangers were ready, they were back a week after the end of the season. There were even complaints about that weren’t there I think, or it was an issue.

“It’s probably the worst result ever by a British team in a European competition that’s how bad it was and do I have sympathy for Pedro Caixinha? No, I don’t and I’ll tell you why, because he does more of his talking off the pitch, or he has done since he’s been in Scotland and I think that’s been a problem.

“In all the stuff about green boots, it would help Rangers if they actually put the boots on the right feet.”

Caixinha has also been allowed to bring in as many as nine new players in his first transfer window at the club, including the likes of Bruno Alves, Graham Dorrans and Ryan Jack.

It is expected he will now be judged on the way those players perform with many also largely unknown in Scotland and this is set to be another big campaign for the club and manager.
