Charlton Athletic are weighing up an offer to sign Aston Villa goalkeeper Jed Steer on loan, according to a London News report.

The London-based media outlet claims the 24-year-old shot-stopper will be allowed to leave Villa on loan this summer in order to play regular first team football next season.

It is said League One Charlton are in the hunt for another goalkeeper as Dillon Phillips is the only one they currently have on their books, and Steer fits the bill.

The 24-year-old only managed to make three appearances for Villa’s Under-23s outfit last term, as the vast majority of his season was ravaged by an achilles injury.

The Birmingham giants signed Steer on a free transfer from Norwich in the summer of 2013, but he is yet to feature for the first team.

Since joining Villa he has however spent time on loan at Doncaster Rovers, Yeovil Town and Huddersfield Town.

The 24-year-old enjoyed a fine spell with the Terriers in 2015-16, where he played 38 league and cup games and helped them avoid relegation from the Championship.

Steer was capped twice by England Under-19s in his youth, but he has not featured for his nation at age-group level or otherwise since then.
