One-time capped England international defender Steven Caulker looks “increasingly likely” to join Celtic this summer after talks with Brendan Rodgers, according to WestLondonSport.

The local news outlet have detailed on their website that current club QPR are looking to offload the 25-year-old this summer on a free transfer with a sell-on clause possibly inserted into any deal.

The once thought of bright prospect has gone into the final year of his contact at the English Championship club and played just 14 times in all competitions last season.

Rodgers himself has played down reports of a move for Caulker recently, stating that the talks the two had were more about offering advice to the defender following his admittance of off-field problems.

However, WestLondonSport reports that discussion between both QPR and Celtic over the centre-back have taken place and there is now a “growing expectation” that the transfer will be completed.

Caulker has been a part of the QPR side for three years after joining from Celtic in the summer of 2014 for an undisclosed fee.

During his time at the London-based club he has suffered relegation alongside failed loan spells at both Southampton and Liverpool in the Premier League and he will now be keen to restart his career, which could happen under Rodgers after the two previously worked together at Swansea.
