Manager Steve Bruce wants to bring Stoke forward Peter Crouch back to Villa Park this summer, according to the Sun.

The news outlet details that the experienced boss is looking for another “big-name” to follow through the Aston Villa doors after the signing of John Terry and 36-year-old Crouch would certainly meet that billing.

It is however stated that the 42-time capped England international is earning around £4million-a-year at the Potters and Bruce does not want to spend a large fee to bring him in from the Bet365 Stadium.

Additionally, it is reported that Crouch will not be taking a wage reduction to move to the Championship club.

But, a deal with a promotion bonus is something that could entice the towering forward to make the move across the Midlands according to the Sun.

Crouch of course was on the books of Aston Villa between 2002 and 2004 as a 21-year-old.

He ended up scoring just six times in 38 matches for the Midlands giants in total before leaving for Southampton for a fee of £2.5million and he seemingly hasn’t looked back since.

The forward has gone on to play for such clubs as Liverpool and Tottenham, while scoring 101 times in 430 Premier League matches.

Crouch also boasts a very fine record at international level with 22 goals from his 42 caps and Bruce could be looking to add his firepower as he looks to build a squad capable of winning promotion to the Premier League.
