Aston Villa are planning to complete a deal for Hull City defender Ahmed Elmohamady in the coming days, according to the Birmingham Mail.

The newspaper reports that the Midlands club are currently in talks with Hull over a potential deal for the 29-year-old but both parties have not yet reached an agreement about the fee.

The report claims that the Villa will need to spend around £3million in order to acquire the services of the dynamic full-back this summer.

The Birmingham Mail reports that the player himself is interested in playing under former boss Steve Bruce next season and he is also keen on a new challenge following Hull’s relegation from the Premier League last season.

It is reported that Bruce is a huge admirer of the defender as he feels that Elmohamady, who has accumulated 165 Premier League appearances, can provide the team with versatility as Villa might look to switch to a back three next season.

The Egypt international might not need too much time to adapt to life at Villa Park as he has worked under Bruce during his time at current club Hull and former side Sunderland.

The defender played an important role in helping Hull achieve promotion during the 2015-16 season as he contributed with three goals and seven assists in all competitions.

The full-back was also a regular in the starting lineup during their Premier League campaign last season, featuring in 37 matches in all competitions but he was unable to prevent Hull from being relegated.

Elmohamady’s current contract at the KCOM Stadium expires in 2019.
