Dummett’s performances on the left side of the defence came into question last season as the Toon finished as champions of England’s second division and gained promotion back to the Premier League at the first attempt.
The Toon academy product was repeatedly targeted as a weak link in the Magpies’s defensive shield, allowing Championship wingers to beat him more often than not to the byline.
Replacing the defender is likely to be high on Benitez’s agenda this summer and despite Moreno’s form, giving him the confidence of being the Toon’s first-choice left-back will see reach the potential he promised when first signing on at Anfield.
